No-bake energy bars - my kind of cooking.
The Spruce Eats has a highly reviewed recipe for Gluten-Free Energy Bars (click the link for the recipe). The best part about this recipe is they are NO-BAKE! I know I'm not the only overwhelmed working mom out there. The recipe includes a variety of nuts, seeds and dried fruits and appears to easily be able to be modified. Nuts are a wonderful source of protein and healthy fats.
Almonds in particular include some some essential amino acids including methionine, lysine, and threonine. Essential amino acids are ones that our body cannot product or convert other substances into, therefore we must get these through our diet, whereas nonessential amino acids our body can produce even if we do not consume a food with it.
Almonds also include cysteine, which is a precursor of glutathione, one of the strongest antioxidants! In fact, some research has shown glutathione to effectively help a variety of diseases including Parkinson's, cystic fibrosis, COPD, and many others. This antioxidant helps remove toxins from our body as well as decrease inflammation.
Try out the recipe and share your thoughts with me! Stay tuned-once I try it I will add a photo and smell/taste result from my family!
